INSTRUCTOR-LED TRAINING
Here are a few instructor-led trainings I have designed and led. Click on the titles to see the complete slide deck.
Title: Communicating with Frontline Workers with Limited English Proficiency
Tools: PowerPoint
Audience: Human resources, safety, and learning and development professionals
I was invited to speak to the North American Meat Institute to present on ways to improve orientation, onboarding, and learning for non-native English speakers in meat production facilities.
Title: International Teaching Assistant Training
Audience: Central Michigan University Graduate Teaching Assistants
Tools: Google Slides, PollEverywhere
This was a train-the-trainer event for international employees. Using a needs analysis from books and key-stake holders, I designed a week-long training program. This sample includes the first two days of the training. The last three days were scenario-based learning and application of knowledge learned.
Title: Culturally Responsive Instruction
Tools: Google Slides, TechSmith Screencast
Client: Bishop O'Gorman Catholic Schools
After meeting with international learners, I noticed a pattern that many of the instructors did not have training or experience working with international populations. I decided I wanted to help instructors adjust their courses to be more inclusive for both international and domestic populations.
For a needs analysis, I observed classes, surveyed instructors, interviewed learners, and interviewed managers. I determined that a better understanding of cultural differences was needed, including how people from different places interact with their surroundings, peers, and instructors. I also included specific culturally responsive strategies and gave specific examples of those strategies for instructors to adapt or adopt.

I implemented this training at the beginning of the year so that instructors had the time to adjust their lessons as needed. To create engaging learning, I utilized scenarios, movement, and several group discussion opportunities, as many instructors indicated they prefer this style of learning.
Title: Intercultural Exchange Get to Know You
Tools: Adobe Spark, Canva
Audience: 10+ participants from different countries and language backgrounds
Title: Aligning Curriculum and Material Development
Tools: Google Slides
Audience: English language teachers from around the world
The alignment of curriculum--a learning plan--and the materials used to implement the plan is critical. If the materials do not support what learners need to know, they are a distraction, rather than support. This train-the-trainer event helps instructors learn how to do needs analysis and determine materials that will support learning.
